Keep the exact error message
Note which app you used, the time, the funding method, and the exact wording of the decline. Do not post screenshots that reveal your card number, balance, identity, or transaction identifiers.
Avoid rapidly repeating a payment. First check your transaction history for a pending or completed charge, and resolve uncertainty with the wallet or bank.
Check the recipient and payment type
Confirm that the code belongs to the intended recipient. Personal transfers and merchant checkouts can have different eligibility rules. A code being readable does not prove that your selected card can fund that transaction.
Ask the wallet’s official support whether the particular transaction is supported. Do not use a larger amount to try to bypass an error.
Could your card be the problem?
A linked card can still be declined by its issuer. Check the selected card in your wallet, then open the bank or card app to look for a decline reason or approval request.
- Confirm that the card is activated, is not frozen or expired, and has enough available funds.
- Review the card’s spending limits and online-payment settings in the issuer’s app.
- Complete any requested bank approval or 3D Secure check yourself. Keep access to your verification phone number.
If the issuer has no record of the attempt, ask wallet support to check the payment type and recipient restrictions. Switching cards will not make an unsupported personal transfer eligible.
Check account and bank verification
Look for unfinished prompts inside the official wallet app and review messages in your bank’s official app. The Chinese government’s payment guidance notes that linking overseas cards requires issuer verification and recommends contacting the payment provider or issuer when it fails.
Keep the authentication method available on your travel phone. Do not share one-time codes with this site or a person claiming to provide support.
When should you try a different card?
If your issuer confirms a card-related decline and cannot resolve it, consider another supported card from a different issuer. Resolve any pending charge before retrying.
Compare Wise and Revolut with your existing card before you travel. Availability, fees and wallet support depend on your country and card; neither provider guarantees that a personal donation code will work.

Escalate with useful information
Use support inside your wallet or the number in your bank’s official app. Give them the error wording and ask whether the issue is transaction eligibility, account verification, or an issuer decision. They can access account-specific information this website cannot.
If a payment appears pending, ask about its status before starting another one. Keep a backup method available.
